Aspivix is the Swiss medical device company behind carevix®, the world's first suction-based cervical stabiliser and a device named one of TIME magazine's Best Inventions of 2024. Founded in 2015 and headquartered in Renens, Switzerland, the company was built around a single, clear purpose: replacing the tenaculum, a sharp-tipped instrument that has been used in gynaecology for more than a century, with a gentler, atraumatic alternative.
The carevix® device affixes to the cervix via soft suction rather than by piercing tissue, and has been shown in clinical studies to reduce pain during IUD insertion by more than 70% and bleeding by over 80% compared with traditional tenaculum use. The device has received FDA 510(k) clearance, CE Mark, MHRA approval, and ANVISA registration, enabling commercialisation across Switzerland, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Benelux region. Initial US availability expanded into Southern California and New York following the FDA clearance issued in January 2023.
Aspivix's commercial partnerships include collaboration with Bayer, the leading global IUD manufacturer, for the Swiss market rollout. The company has raised funding from a range of European investors, including a $5 million Series A+ round backed by HEMEX, 4FOx Ventures, and Zürcher Kantonalbank, alongside a EUREKA-EUROSTARS grant co-funded by Innosuisse. Its focus remains on women's health innovation, specifically transcervical procedures such as IUD insertion, hysteroscopy, cervical biopsy, and fertility treatments.
